Here comes another experiment from the team of SOLS. A debutant director “Richie” amazes us with his dream child UK.

There are many things in this movie that I am impressed with and want to share. I may fail to give a structural review in the process, but who cares. 😛 When was the structure fun? 😛

The Narration

First segment of the movie sets every mood that is required for us to settle down and at the same time get curious about the plot. The story telling here is a smart trick with the right mixture of fact, fantasy and music. Couldn’t help but notice the Django feel, may be an inspiration, nevertheless perfect beginning. With second segment enter “Richie” the super star of UK. He makes you to laugh, to giggle, suddenly gets serious and along with humour eventually steals the show. In the following segments there comes the emotions of Mother Sentiment, Tara at her best, PranayaRaja in a never seen appearance with his silent romantic love interest and finally Kaaki, at this point it gets a little slow, might be intended to give you some free time to check messages and eat those pop-corn and within no time a brilliant track “Final Showdown” follows to end, twining the threads and leaving the questions.

Simple agondu story..

Simple, simply beautiful.

soalsI saw a short film “Simpalagondu love story” quite a few months back as it went viral over net. Admired the work and simplicity in the narration, which justified the name. A few days later I heard the news which said about a movie being shot by the same team with the same name. I was shocked. I told myself and to my friends with whom I discussed a lot about this “short film” which was actually a trailer for the movie, that this director is making a big mistake by expanding this into a full length movie. Though the critique in me was not ready to expect a outstanding one, the optimist within was eagerly waiting for this to come.

Yeto Vellipoindi Manasu

yeto-vellipoindi-manasu-posters-1Gautam Vasudev Menon… comes back after 3 years, with “Yeto Vellipoindi Manasu”… Though the story is nothing new, and has predictable turns at every point, he has not lost grip on the narration and the scenes. The plot is a typical Boy-Girl love story from school till marriage and their relationship issues. Gautam succeeded in showing the subtle emotions and confusions that arise at every stage of a relationship from both the perspectives of a boy and a girl. Naani as Varun and Samantha as Nithya adds freshness to the movie and has given their best performances. Samantha impresses with her natural acting, depicting emotions of all 3 stages of life, school, college and later. Great work with costumes, especially that of Nithya. (I fell for Samantha every time she appeared in different costume). Prabhu has done a decent job with his camera.

That Girl In Yellow Boots

From off-beat mainline movies, Anurag Kashyap is moving towards ART. It is a great leap for the sensitive artist in him, but kalki.. man my admiration for her doubled for she has penned down this amazing story with Anurag.. Narating a story on screen is one thing but conveying things with indirect reference is a challenge in any art form. The Yellow Boots, Ruth’s search for her father, her job, coke ridden boyfriend and much more references, each start to get deeper the more we dig into it. The narration never gets elaborative about any of this (which would have made it boring) but ignites the necessary spark in viewers thoughts.

The beginning few minutes of the movie gives a clear message to the popcorn lovers that its not the kind of movie that they would really enjoy, allowing them with a chance to walk out. But for who stays, the world of Ruth begins to open up. It is a world of constant search and struggle. Search for existance, identity struggle for living. Finally when she meet, what she thinks, her destiny, it just turns out to be more horrifying than the struggle.

ಆದರೆ ಕಡೆಗೆ  its ವಿಜಿ who steals the show. ಅದು ನಮ್ಮ ಇಂದಿನ ಚಂದನವನ(sandalwood as called by hamsalekha)ದ  ಅನಿವಾರ್ಯ. It has proved itself.

It always happens when the new comes, or some new experiment happens. It takes a great deal to accept something that doesn’t fall in line.

Well am back with some lines again about another movie that I felt is very special.

It’s a new flick by director Yograj Bhat titled “Pancharangi”, Casts Diganth, Nidhi and Anantnag is a respectable smalltime character.

The movie has no strong storyline, the ususal masala things or the twists and turns that would be expected out of a movie. Without the 5 songs it would have been easily classified as a documentary or something. No high emotional scenes or dramas. Only thing that we notice is the dialogues and only dialogues keep you glued to your seats for 3 hours. Yograj and his team has excelled in coming up with witty dialogues that will make everyone laugh and cry and laugh again and say LOL, ROFL and whatever superlatives that can be attributed.
